In the case of a minor fender bender where both vehicles are mobile and there are no injuries: • pull to the side of the road. - record the license plate number of the other car - the driver’s name, address, phone number and driver’s license number • write down the location, time, day and short sum- mary of what happened during the collision
If possible, find witnesses and get their names, addresses and phone numbers. When you return home, call ICBC DIAL-A-CLAIM at 1-800-910-4222 (24 hours a day) to report the collision. A telephone claims representative will tell you what to do next.
In the case of a major crash, remain calm. Check yourself and anyone else in your vehicle for injuries. Remember that some injuries do not appear right away. If you do not seem to be suffering from any outstanding injuries and it is safe to get out of your car: • ask someone to call the police or call yourself if you have a cellular phone 87 • record the same information as you would for a minor fender bender • record the name of anyone charged by police at the scene as well as the specific charge
Also record the names and addresses and phone numbers of anyone taken to hospital who were occupants of your vehicle or other vehicles involved in the crash.
WARNING: It is a very serious offence to drive away from the scene of an accident. |
